When the enemies of Judah and Benjamin heard that the exiles were building a temple for the Lord , the God of Israel, (Ezra 4:1 NIV)

以斯拉记第四章
第四章的记述中加入发生在很多年以后的重建城墙的受阻情况,所以我们有必再次理清经文中提到的波斯王的年代表:
居鲁士(古列王):公元前558年到公元前529年;
大流士(大利乌王):公元前522年到公元前486年;
亚哈随鲁王(薛西斯):公元前486年到公元前465年;
亚达薛西王:公元前465年到公元前425年。
再次回顾归回后圣殿和城墙的重建:
圣殿的重建:
始于公元前537年(波斯 居鲁士王),被阻挠项堃 ,后来完全中断。公元前520年工程得以继续暗杀神,竣工于公元前516年(波斯 大利乌王)。历时20年。
城墙的重建:
公元前444年(波斯 亚达薛西王)重建城墙,52天完工。
下面来看第四章:
一、建圣殿工程受阻
分别记述在四章1–5节和四章24节。
第一节提到犹大和便雅悯的敌人,是指撒玛利亚人仙桃人才网。亚述掳走北国的人时,从别国迁来的外邦人,与侥幸未被掳走的以色列人通婚程雨涵,他们的后代成为撒玛利亚人。他们去见所罗巴伯,假装要协助重建圣殿可疑的三兄弟,但他们真正的目的却是要监视犹太人的动静,破坏圣殿的重建。虽然他们也敬拜耶和华,但耶和华只是他们偶像宗教里众多的神之一,因此以色列的首领都拒绝他们的帮忙。
按年份,四章的第24节接着四章的第5节。犹大的敌人令神殿停工,直停到大利乌王第二年。
二、建城墙工程受阻
四章6节,在亚哈随鲁王时,有人上本控告犹太人。
四章 7–23节,说在亚达薛西年间,有另一本奏章控告重建耶路撒冷并城墙是背叛的行动。
请注意,四章6–23节所讲的奏本,是在圣殿建成后才上告的。这些奏本是指控犹太人建造耶路撒冷的城墙377530,而不是圣殿。以斯拉把这些发生在以后的事件集中到这里,不按年份排列,是为了进一步描述阻拦归回之余民工作的企图,以突出多年来神的工作不断受到干扰,但祂的大能仍得胜的事实。(马唐纳经文解释)
第四章6节至六章8节是用亚兰文而不是希伯来文写的。亚兰文是波斯国诏书的官式语言。
